So you’ve been made redundant. Whether you’re happy or horrified (or even somewhere in the middle!), we have pulled together some tools to help you to use your Voco conversations to get through this time of uncertainty.

Remember, your Voco match will have empathy for your situation - they may be going through something similar, or handling a different but relevant kind of change, and during your conversations you can share your woes, define your strengths, work out what you want to do next and form a plan to get there.

But first, it’s important that you stop to take stock of what has happened (or is about to happen). Give yourself time to process the reality of the situation and, most importantly, give yourself a break. Going through a redundancy process - yes, even a voluntary one - is tiring and, at times, a bit bleak. Use this time to remember what you are good at and what you love about work - as well as to reflect on what didn’t work well for you in the job you are leaving.

Have a read of our ‘Dealing with change’ guide to become more aware of some of the emotions you may be feeling and how to work through them in a healthy way. Use your Voco conversations to access the support of someone who absolutely ‘gets’ what you are going through and, most importantly, remember that this phase, like all things, will pass and more likely than not will take you on to better things.

How it’ll work

Voco is all about conversation, but sometimes it helps to do a bit of thinking, planning and self-reflection before plunging in. So to get your Voco journey started we have created some materials that you can working through on your own...

First up, have a read of our ‘Unpacking the curve of change’ guide to become more aware of some of the emotions you may be feeling and how to work through them in a healthy way. And remember that this phase, like all things, will pass and more likely than not, will take you on to better things. We also suggest you spend some time thinking about how redundancy might affect how you see yourself and how to deal with any feelings of insecurity about your self-worth.

Next we suggest you work your way through our Coaching Conversations series to start adopting a coaching-mindset and learning the tools and tricks you'll use to coach yourself and others through your Voco conversations - just start here!

Then simply work through the conversation Talking Points we send you ahead of each secduled chat. You don’t need to stick rigidly to the themes and there will always be new topics that come up for both of you but, if you remember one thing, it’s to make use of those coaching skills to help guide the conversation, rather than jumping in with your opinion and suggestions too quickly.
