Time to reflect on your last conversation:

  • What have your reflections been on your last meeting? (e.g. Did the discussion with the other person spark any new ideas or perspectives for you? Was there something you noticed about yourself?.)
  • Did you commit to doing anything after your last conversation? If so, did you do it, how did it go? If not, why not?

New theme:

In today’s world sometimes it feels like there is a lot of negative talk about division, we are constantly bombarded by different captions in the newspaper, and on the internet, designed to provoke, set us against each other, and think in terms of US and THEM. However, if you think about some people around you like your childhood friends and neighbors, family, or a trusted hairdresser, there will always be something you don’t agree on, but you’ve seen them through different lenses and known them in different contexts, so you are more open to them being different than you as there is still a bond you share that’s stronger than the division. However, this might be different with the new people coming into your life and into your team as you don’t have the luxury of shared personal history.

Did you know that it takes only 7 seconds to build a prejudice based on someone’s appearance? So here is a video to inspire you to start seeing people around you through different lenses and below are a few questions to reflect on:

  • What are the things that you have been exposed to in your life that might influence how you view your team?
  • What kind of assumptions are you making about your team members based on age, ethnic background, race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, appearance, or anything else?
  • Do your assumptions impact how you feel about their capability and competency?
